Birds of The Ecuadorian Highlands: The Upper Montane and Paramo Zones of Ecuador is a 4 CD publication presenting vocalizations of nearly all bird species found in the High Andes of Ecuador. It contains over 850 separately announced recordings of 246 species and represents the first attempt to publish an audio series devoted entirely to the birds of the High Andes. The goal is to achieve a high degree of completeness, including not only songs, but also a variety calls of each species. In several cases two or more races of a given species are included. A number of species or subspecies presented are regional endemics. The High Andes of Ecuador supports a wide diversity of habitats, ranging from cushion plants near the snowline through high-elevation grassland, wetlands and Polylepis-Gynoxys woodland, to humid forest on the rainy slopes and dry scrub in the intermontane valleys. These habitats are occupied by different communities of birds, each with a voice adapted to its specific environments and life style. This CD-set is part of a series that will eventually coverall of the birds of Ecuador, none of the richest avifaunas in the world.

4 CDs, 2 booklets. Published 2001
